Accessibility statement

Abilikey exists to help people with disabilities find workplace and school accommodations — so the site itself being accessible isn't a compliance checkbox, it's the product working. We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the site, the search explorer, and the letter generator.
What we've implemented
- Keyboard: every interactive element — search, filters, result cards, menus, the letter generator — is a real button, link, or control, operable by keyboard with a visible focus indicator, plus a skip-to-content link.
- Screen readers: semantic landmarks and headings, ARIA states on the menu/filters/view toggles, decorative icons hidden from assistive tech, and focus moved to the page heading on in-app navigation.
- Contrast: the palette is contrast-checked — body text ~8.7:1, secondary text ≥4.8:1, buttons ~6.5:1 — meeting or exceeding the AA thresholds.
- Motion & zoom: animations respect prefers-reduced-motion, and layouts remain usable at 200% zoom and on small screens.
- Privacy by design: the letter generator runs entirely in your browser — accommodation details you type never reach our servers (see our privacy policy).
Known limitations
- The explorer is a single-page app; while focus and titles update on navigation, some screen-reader and browser combinations announce route changes differently.
- Exported letters (.docx / PDF) are generated in the browser; PDF export produces a visual document that may need remediation for full PDF/UA conformance — the .docx export is the more screen-reader-friendly option.
- Linked third-party vendor sites are outside our control and vary widely in accessibility.
